Aspiring songwriters - this is the perfect camp for you!
Students will start in the “classroom”, learning the fundamentals of chord progressions, melody, lyric writing, rhyme scheme, and song structure. The class will then move to the “writer’s room” where students will take a raw idea and form a song from scratch. Throughout the week, they will break up into co-writing groups and craft original material together in an inclusive and collaborative environment. Students will learn some basic music production skills, learn how to set up a microphone, prep a recording session, and record each other. The week will end with a full day in our pro studio recording a final demo of a song each group of campers has worked on throughout the week.
Our camps will be headed by Vanguard instructor Nate Ihara. Since his days of touring, he has produced and written songs for other artists as well as himself, with compositions making their way around the world from Canada to Sweden, and his music being featured in television, commercials, and film.
This camp is geared towards students ages 12-17 that play an instrument or sing and are interested in creating their own original songs. Campers who are “lyricists only” are encouraged to sign up as well!
